Progress in the ITER Project implementation discussed at the XLIV International Zvenigorod Conference

February 13, 2017, traditionally, the “ITER: step to future energy” section under supervision of Anatoly Krasilnikov – director of the institution Project Center ITER (Russian ITER DA) took place within the framework of the 44th International Zvenigorod Conference for plasma physics and thermonuclear fusion.

On Monday, February 13, representatives from ITER Russia, as well as research centers and industries involved into the ITER Project implementation process in Russia, presented oral and stand reports on the progress in fulfilling Russia’s obligations in manufacturing and procurement of the future facility components within Russias obligations. All the reports were brought to light on the first day of the International Conference for plasma physics and thermonuclear fusion in Zvenigorod, Moscow region. Most of them were dedicated to issues related to manufacturing of the magnet system, in-vessel plasma-facing components, and diagnostic complexes for measurement of plasma parameters.
The reports were unified within the traditional ITER: Step to future energy section, that for many years has been a part of the conference, which again pulled together recognized experts in fusion and plasma physics. The section, dedicate to progress in the ITER Project joint implementation attracted broad attention of the expert community, including representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences and leading Russian and foreign research crnters.

On 24 October 2007, the ITER Organization was officially established following the ratification by the seven ITER Members of the project's constitutive document, the ITER Agreement.
Now, nearly ten years on, a unique community has taken root in southern France, among the hills of Haute Provence. Hundreds of scientists, engineers, technicians, project members and administrators from 35 countries that are working toward the same goal: building the first machine that will be capable of demonstrating a burning plasma, a self-sustaining environment that holds the key to the development of a new, safe, environmentally responsible and virtually inexhaustible energy source.
